Started life as a 350. Through some weird turn of events it got stolen and drive line removed. So the owner did the right thing.....

454 BIG BLOCK!!

Kinja'd!!!

Yes, I drove it, and yes it will move. That damn engine makes the whole car shake like the engine is trying to remove itself from its cage. He says he is going to have it painted and a couple odds and ends taken care of and then sell it, maybe he will be nice and give it as a wedding present??? I guy can dream

Poly engine mounts. Nice to see it has AC. God how i wish my muscle car had AC. Also tell him to ditch that Edelbrock Carb and get a 750 DP Holley, You’ll probably make an extra 20 hp.

Yes, the AC is a godsend, especially in socal. It was already in the upper 80s this weekend.

Oh and ditch that MSD box. I have never seen one electrical component leave so many people stranded. a good GM HEI distributor is all you need.

Swapping out the 6A for a 6AL would be a good move if it’s stick, too.

But looks like a pretty good build! Nothing flagrantly bubbafied.

Really? I though MSD were tops, I will certainly pass on that info!

Ditch MSD completely. Most unreliable electronics ever. Unless you’re boosting it, using 2 step to drag it, revving it above 6500, or require a rev limiter, a stock GM HEI is good enough and dead nuts reliable.

My philosophy is never put an MSD box on anything that isn’t towed where it needs to go.

Remove the vinyl top, SS front grille, cowl hood, and a little spoiler in the rear are needed when it goes in the paint both.

That’s what his son, my future brother in law, wants to do. Not a bad direction, I am certainly in the vinyl roof hate camp, but...... this one slightly appeals to me, I dig the ratty exterior. It even still has the 350 badges on it, not that it fools many once it is started up. Its about as sleeper as you can get for a 70 chevelle

A 70 Chevelle will never be a sleeper. lol

Remove the vinyl, put a good paint job on it, and it will last for even longer.

Yea, they’re kind of a pain. Seems like every 3-4 years they up and die. The new digital 6AL seems pretty good in my FIL’s Mustang.

They were of better quality years ago, that’s for sure. And they’re sensitive to bad grounds/poor quality wiring. Some of the distributors rust under the cap now and there are counterfeit boxes on the market, too.

I’ve never had an issue with one personally. Two of the installs have had the same 6AL for over 15 years. I don’t see a need to run one if you don’t need a rev limiter though. As Travis said, an HEI is simple and works fine. Might need to lightly modify the firewall though.

And be aware that some timing lights don’t play nice with multiple sparks.

Accel is the worst by MILES.

Not saying MSD is as good as they used to be, but I’ve had stuff from Accel be broken straight out of the box.

It’d be better if it had a truck bed :)
